30 years ago, a Korean boy came to the Southwest of China who just left the Korean-speaking environment and tried to acclimatize himself; 30 years later, he is a supervisor of Venture Capital Management, giving public-welfare lessons of innovation and entrepreneurship in KUST, teaching in Chinese to enlighten the young generations. 30 years ago, he bravely explored various fields including tourism, tea industry, international trade and air transportation; 30 years later, he has increased wisdom with the age, and his life value has also been enhanced by his contribution to the society.
Keep Hungry, Keep Moving
JIN Dongtian, who was admitted to the Faculty of Environmental Engineering (KUST) in 1987 and graduated in 1991 as “the most excellent graduate”, has founded six companies, and he was also the initiator of Le Bei Investment Commune, the Vice-president of KUST Entrepreneur Alumni Association, and a supervisor of Venture Capital Management in KUST.
JIN Dongtian has shown strong professional competence and leadership since university days, but it is more striking that he was brave to break the shackle of rules which was illustrated by that he started his own business when he was an undergraduate. The aforementioned qualities, combined with his business acumen, contributed greatly to his career. Under the background of Reform and Opening-up, he took extensive social practice with his wisdom, farsightedness, innovativeness, and persistence that most of his contemporaries did not possess, and finally made a great success.
Strive in KUST for a Win-win Result
The rich social experience from the practice when he was in KUST enabled him to be one of the leaders among the graduates in 1987 of the Department of Environmental Engineering. He was highly praised during the four years of undergraduate for his industriousness and sincerity with which he succeeded in leading the students of his faculty as Monitor to gain championships of various competitions held in KUST. Kunming Institute of Technology for these students was not only a temple from which knowledge could be obtained but also a warm family in which friendship and sense of belonging could be acquired. The precious experience of adolescent years now still remains in the heart of every student of KUST through 30 years. JIN Dongtian, as the Vice-president of the Association, has been conducting professional entrepreneur-training courses for association members to encourage them to get a win-win result with joint efforts.
JIN Dongtian started his adventure after graduation with honor. He broke the shackle of rules and got self-employed rather than chose national distribution, thus opening up a new way. He resigned despite stable income and bright career future and opened his own business with farsightedness and ten years’ accumulation of experience. In 2000, he founded a travel agency and launched new businesses including Golf Tour and High-end Tourist Routes Development. He founded altogether six companies spanning a wide range of industries, and got great commercial success. He created a people-oriented team with honesty and earnestness as its core. And the farsightedness enabled him to be a successful entrepreneur walking in the forefront of times.
Found Le Bei , Contribute
In his fifties, JIN Dongtian became a investor from entrepreneur with sufficient accumulation of social experience and wealth. On the one hand, he was well aware of the social responsibilities that entrepreneurs shoulder, so he reflected on contribution he could make to the society; on the other hand, he tried to keep pace with the times, so he learned new skills and followed up China’s economic transformation and development, and as such he founded Le Bei Investment Commune(hereinafter referred to as Le Bei)
Le Bei is the first venture-capital-management institution in Yunnan Province that provides guidance and angel-investment for new entrepreneurs and investors and aims at constructing a ecosphere for them. Taking Lean Startup as its methodology and Holacracy organizational model, Le Bei aims to cultivate 1000 local angel investors and help 10000 entrepreneurs, thus creating a new environment for investment in Yunnan Province. Since its foundation one year ago, Le Bei has participated in about 30 investment projects besides which two local projects in Yunnan Province are being prepared.
Additionally, JIN Dongtian is a supervisor of Venture Capital Management, giving public-welfare lessons of innovation and entrepreneurship in KUST. He believes that wealth is from and must be contributed to the society. The most effective approach to cultivate the entrepreneurs of the young generations is to teach them the knowledge of corporate operation and experience on the basis of becoming their angel investors. The life journey of JIN Dongtian is marvelous, the first half of which is exploring and the second half is enjoying.
