1. Introduction Environmental engineering is an interdisciplinary specialty involving civil construction, chemistry engineering, biology, meteorology, management and sociology, etc. It implements engineering, planning and management measurements based on the impacts of human production and social activities on environment, promoting the harmonic development of society, economy and environment. Environmental engineering is national “first class characteristic specialty construction site”, provincial key specialty, and characteristic superiority major of KMUST. The major is originated from chemistry engineering founded in 1958, which was rectified by state educational committee and became one of the first environmental engineering majors in our country. After over 30 year’s development, the major has become an important base of high-level talents cultivation and scientific research in the environmental fields, which has possessed complete cultivation system including bachelors degree, master’s degree, engineering master’s degree, doctor’s degree and postdoctoral degree. The graduates spread all over national environmental fields and related industry such as production, scientific research, design and colleges. The major has passed authentication of engineering specialty of education ministry in 2008. At present, it has 28 full time teachers, including 8 professors, 5 doctor tutors, 16 associate professors, 13 master tutors, and 24 has doctor’s degree.…6 provincial young and middle aged academic leaders and 23 has practical engineering experience. 2. cultivation project of bachelor’s degree 2.1 program objectives The program of environmental engineering is to educate students to be armed with knowledge in pollution prevention and treatment of municipal water, air, noise and solid wastes, water supply and discharge engineering, water pollution control planning and water resources protection. 2.2 Scope of the fields Environmental engineering comprises the following fields: scientific research, planning, design, and management of environmental engineering; water pollution control engineering, air pollution control engineering, solid waste treatment and disposal, physical pollution prevention and control technology, environmental monitoring, environmental assessment, environmental planning and management. 2.3 Specification requirements The main courses include general chemistry, engineering drawing, microbiology, electro-technics, environmental monitoring, basic theories and knowledge of environmental engineering. The students will be trained with foreign languages, computer technology and drawing, pollution monitoring and analysis, engineering design, planning and management, cultivating the capability of scientific research, engineering design, planning and management of environmental scientific technology and water supply and drainage. The graduates should get the following knowledge and capability: (1) master basic theory and knowledge of environmental engineering, including general chemistry, analytic chemistry, physical chemistry, engineering mechanics, surveying, engineering drawing, microbiology, hydraulics, electro-technics, environmental monitoring and evaluation, etc. (2) master basic theory and design method of water pollution control engineering, air pollution control engineering, noise control engineering, solid waste treatment and disposal and resource engineering. (3) be capable of pollution monitoring and analysis, environmental monitoring, environmental quality assessment, environmental planning and management. (4) understand theory front and development trend of environmental science and technology.
